STARS IN THEIR EYES: Angela Dawson and Geoff Dykes

FORECAST IS GOOD FOR ASTROLOGY SHOP
(Reproduced from the Business Section of Bury Times, Thursday, November 15, 2007)

Success looks to be written in the stars for an enterprising Bury couple who believe their newly-launched astrology shop in the town is the first of its kind in the UK.

Geoff Dykes and Angela Dawson have opened their unique Gelageo shop on The Rock which could ultimately be the 'spiritual home' for many seeking enlightenment through the range of services the business offers.

And if the initial level of interest in their company is anything to go by, then the forecast for the future of Gelageo is particularly promising. The shop offers visitors individual astrology or numerology reports, relationship/compatibility reports, a consultancy service including Feng Shui and birthtime rectification, professional tarot reading and personalised birthday portraits.

Geoff (49) and 43 year-old Angela, who have recently celebrated the birth of their son, stress that while their business is concerned with the esoteric sciences in generalm their core talent lies in the field of astrology.

Geoff said "Traditional 'sun sign' astrology is often dismissed as just a bit of fun, although there are respected astrologers who can produce some amazingly accurate interpretations of celestial events on our human soulds."

For those unable to visit the shop, Gelageo offers an online facility to allow clients to buy and instantly download the company's most popular personal, forecast and relationship reports.

The launch of the business is a radical departure for Geoff who only moved to Bury in the past year. "I'm taking a sabbatical from my travel career after 32 years," he says. "But I'll still be able to advise people where to go as astrocartography is one branch of astrology which I intend to make wide us of."

"My partner, Angela, has lived and worked here for more than ten years and prior to meeting me she was known by many locals as 'astroangie' for her interest and incredible knowledge of astrology. She has worked for local employers including Yates's and O2, resigning from the latter at the end of last year to pursue self-employment in a field that she is well qualified."

Commenting on the launch of what Geoff describes as a "concept" business, he says it could be perceived by many as a "risky venture." But he continued: "To the best of our knowledge, this has never before been tried on any of Britain's high streets and, therefore, is a first for Bury.

"There are of course, many branches of astrology and, within these, numerous options making it impossible for anyone to know everything there is to know about a subject that has been around for at least four millenia.

"Fortunately, advanced computer software makes the task easier. Whilst Angela has been studying the subject intensely for more than 15 years, my long terms passive interest has been awakened in meeting Angela though an online dating site and then from researching the many otpions for the business software."

Meanwhile, Geoff and Angela don't have to look to the stars to determine the immediate future of their business. Their premises on The Rock are only temporary offices and are scheduled to be demolished next April to make way for a new multi-million shopping development.
